Aamir Khan rues shortage of children's films

Bollywood star Aamir Khan rues the fact that Hindi film industry does not make many movies for children.

Aamir’s next movie Taare Zameen Pe is a children’s film. Aamir plays the teacher of a dyslexic child in it. According to Aamir, it is a story that will not just entertain children but also touch the hearts of adults.

Aamir says it was the story idea of ‘Taare Zameen Pe’ that fascinated him first. He immediately knew he had to make this movie and act in it as well. Then began the tough task of finding the right child artiste for the movie. The search ended at young kid Darsheel Safari.

In Aamir’s words, the film industry tends to ignore children viewers, despite the fact that every family has kids.

“Films meant for kids should be made on a regular basis. Every home has a child, so invariably they too happen to be an important audience for us and we can make so many films for them,” Aamir is quoted as saying in an interview.

‘Taare Zameen Pe’ is directed by Amol Gupte and has music by Shankar Ehsaan and Loy. A part of the movie has been shot near the New Era High School in Panchgani.

The film’s shooting is over and it will hit the theatres later this year. It will be Aamir’s only release in 2007.
